Meet Rewa, Mrs. Bombastic

After being one of our most dedicated customers for 2+ years, Rewa took the plunge and signed herself up for the Shut Up & Dance Instructor Training. Now she’s thrusting her way to a class near you…

So Rewa, what’ your Guilty Pleasure dance track?

Oh no.  It’s probably Mr. Bombastic by Shaggy.  Or any of the early Kylie Minogue songs… it’s so hard to choose I love lots of tracks for different reasons!  I have a belief that having a favourite dance track is like having a favourite child.  The one that is most embarrassing in public is probably the one that you secretly admire and enjoy the most.

If you were to be stranded on a desert island and you had to take one person with you, who would it be and why?

I thought about someone interesting to talk to like Susie Orbach or Sasha Velour, and then to help me choose I started googling trying to find out whether either of them have any skills that might help us get off the island if things went bad.  Or failing that, any skills that might help us make bacon if we were to be stranded indefinitely. Then I felt bad because I would be taking them away from the world and wondered, do you think I would get any kind of special international prize if I offered to take Justin Bieber with me?

Have you done anything in the past week that has made you proper cringe?

After the Cuba Dupa performance, I was hungry so went to the roast dinner shop in my costume, undies on the outside and fishnet tights and everything. Only about a 3 or 4/10 cringe so not doing too bad this week.

What would you say is your biggest achievement yet?

My ability to be a responsible adult.  I won that when I was 25.  (Credit Allie Brosch).

What's your favourite quote?

This is also hard to choose! I like working with narratives in my day job, and one of the key ideas behind this is ‘every person and every problem has an exceptional story’.  I love the double meaning of exceptional where there are always things about people you just wouldn’t expect, and that these exception stories are often fantastically extraordinary.

QUICK FIRE ROUND

Vegemite: Yay or nay?

In an emergency desert island situation yes, but marmite is better.

If you were a cake slice what would you be and why?

One of those kids birthday cakes where you put way too many things on it and have jet planes crashed into the sides and a chocolate lake in the middle with sparklers and sprinkles.  More is always more.

If there was a film made about your life, what's the song that plays on its trailer?

Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen, or something powerful like Have You Ever Seen the Rain (Bonnie Tyler version).  I told my friends this though and they laughed and said no, it would be Safety Dance.  Thanks guys.

 Cats or dogs?

Cats = 💜, Dogs = 💜, but penguins are probably my spirit animal.

 Something you're really good at?

Drinking tea and knitting.
