"Every body is a dancer's body" A message for our newbies 💟
‘Aw, I love 90’s pop but I really can’t dance’
We hear it time and time again. Let me tell you a secret, dance is not the main reason for coming to our class. What? I hear you say. Yup you heard me right – dance is secondary. The music, the connection, the power, the meditation, the freedom, the absolute space you give your mind and body by stepping into this space is the reason. Learning a fun dance to pop music is the bonus.
Hey Team Rewa here!! Look at me doing a blog post ;)
Here’s 5 legit reasons why I love Beginner’s Club <3
1 - The banger playlists
Teaching Beginner’s Club, I get to do some of my absolute favourite routines of all times – the ones that never get boring and fill my soul and they’ll fill yours Too! The songs that made us all fall in love with pop music in the first place. For me, getting to do classes like It’s Raining Men and Bad Romance and getting to see people learn these moves for the first time will never get old.
✨To give you a taste of some of our killer playlists, give us a follow on Spotify 😉
2 - Getting to meet new friends
Guys, some of our best top customers are Beginner’s Club graduates <3 and have become my dancing friends. Getting to watch people’s dancing journeys from day one is everything. I also know people who met for the first time at our Beginner’s Club, and people who come to our classes who are visiting Wellington and want to do something unique and meet people. So, if you’re coming to join us, please don’t be afraid to say hi to that person who looks like they might say hi back.
3 - Introducing people to the thing I love, with love
I’ve been dancing my whole life and I cannot imagine things any other way, it’s my best happy place. Getting to introduce other people to that makes me smile! I love seeing you try new things and come up with new versions of moves! I love it even more when people also realise that dance is that thing that was missing for them too. Some people come to classes having had experiences of learning dancing when they were younger in disciplined and serious ways. So I also really enjoy getting to reintroduce people to dance in a way that is full of joy. Everyone can dance. Every body is a dancer’s body. You coming to the class and moving in a way that makes you happy makes my day.
4 - Accidentally learning other things
Ok so, you came to a dance class to get to live your Mariah Carey fantasy. But accidentally you walk out the door also having learnt: you’re not alone in your appreciation of B*witched (I love this about you!). That being awkward and not taking yourself too seriously is the way to be in life. That the 80s / 90s / 00s and your smaller self are worth celebrating. That you’re capable of doing hard things (like walking into a room full of strangers and learning the hip thrusting moves to greased lightening without caring if anyone is watching and actually it’s pretty satisfying).
5 - That moment of fear to fearless
Pictures that live in my mind: that first class of all the Beginner’s Clubs I’ve ever done, where everyone is hanging onto the back of the room and no one is ready for the front row. It reminds me of some of the fears that people put aside to walk into that room and what it’s like to do something new. But at that point, I feel super excited because I know they’ve done that hardest first step. Pictures that also live in my mind: the same people, 6 weeks later, strutting down the room like they belong there. It gets me every time and is super humbling – one of the best things in my job.
I hope this post has given you a better idea of what Beginner’s Club is like!
Can’t wait to meet you!
high five
