Ready, Sweat, GO!

We’re proud to be a part of Sweat With Pride this August – we had a chin wag with Sweaty Betty about why we’re supporting our rainbow community. You can read the interview on their website and sign up this August at Sweat With Pride.

Tell us about yourself!

We're that person who accidentally whacked you at that dance class you went to last week. Sorry, it was our hoot. I mean our fand. Wait. We mean to say we lifted up our foot instead of our hand and whacked you in the back. Sorry – We've got two left feet and we don't seem to be in control of them...

We're Shut Up & Dance. Nice to meet you.

*hakes shand* – whoops – *shakes hand*

Why are you taking part in Sweat with Pride?

Why aren't we?! Sweat With Pride is an excuse to try and form a habit – the best habit – for our mental health and wellbeing.

We'll be improving the health and wellbeing of our wider community too.

Why is it important to support Rainbow communities?

Because change isn't happening fast enough. Sexual orientation is finally being asked about in our census – but the next one isn't until 2023. Our Rainbow community continue to suffer discrimination in areas such as health and education as a result of systematic issues like this.

That's why it's important to raise financial aid and show our rainbow whānau our support by taking action. We're more than happy for that action to be a sweaty, smiley dance class.

How will you be sweating this August?

Putting on our favourite song and busting a move from the comfort of our bedroom/kitchen/hallway.

What’s one thing you would say to someone considering taking part in Sweat with Pride?

The world has felt very heavy recently and some days it feels like your energy is being pulled in every direction. That's because your energy is needed.

But that's why Sweat With Pride has got to be one of the best places to invest your efforts right now. It's a way to give back to a community that needs collective focus and ensure your health and wellbeing is prioritised too.

Just do it. You'll finish the challenge having raised some funds and started a healthy, life-long habit for yourself.

Plus we're making it easier with Shut Up & Dance Instagram Lives at 10am, every Sunday this August. It’s free for SWP participants and a $10 koha to SWP for anyone else who wants to join in.

See you there!

*high five*
